We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for our teachers, Tracy and Sam and our teacher aide, Victoria, who are a little older. This blog lets you know what we
have been up to and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people
think about our class so please get typing and leave us a comment.

Week 8 Term 2

In week 7 we have been thinking about working together as part of a team.

On Wednesday afternoon we had a very successful Hero card sharing session. It allowed us to apply our maths skills to a real life situation and show our great social skills around relating to others.

As you can see our block building skills are also coming along really well.
We thought lots about the Maori new year celebrations of Matariki
Part of this focus involved a fun trip to the museum where some of us shared our pepeha.

Some of us acted out the legend of Rata and the waka.
We learnt local legends about dolphins and wheke or octopus.......
.....and even made our own wheke

In our P.E. session we continued to learn about rugby skills after playing "Rob the Nest" as a warm up.

On Friday afternoon we shared in our whole school celebration of Matariki and had lots of fun performing the Matariki Macarena.

We ended the week with a special news item shared by a family team!
