We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for our teachers, Tracy and Sam and our teacher aide, Victoria, who are a little older. This blog lets you know what we
have been up to and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people
think about our class so please get typing and leave us a comment.

Week 6 Term 4

This week we were treated to a reading of The Ant and The Grasshopper play..well done everyone who took part.
It was great to see how Discovery Time creations had been worked on further at home. This hotel came back with a working electric light and a range of Lego furniture inside!
Another treat came in the form of a visit from Daryl the turtle who was very lucky to be rescued from a local river. Just in time too as the eels had already nibbled off one of his feet.

On Wednesday we got together with our Kowhai friends for a special visit from Isla's granddad who told us all about his bee keeping.
We got to see some real live bees........
,,,,take a close up look at the honey comb.......
.... and see the different ways that bee keepers keep themselves protected from being stung.
On Thursday afternoon we learnt all about relay running and how to pass the baton effectively. We hope that you can come along and watch as for part or all of the morning this Thursday when we have our Y0-1 athletics Day. The fun kicks off at 9.15 and goes through until lunch at 12.30.

Take a look at this movie we made of opur amazing adjective snake...he will be slithering around somewhere up high in class soon.
Discovery Time once again led to many amazing creations and heaps of cooperation which was our focus key competency. Here you can see us cooperating to try to create a beehive with 100 hexagonal cells.
Working on projects together makes things much easier.
We had a lovely surprise when Victoria popped into lend us a hand. I think she has been missing Discovery Times.
Look at this amazing boat creation......
...which was later teamed up with this plane to make an aircraft carrier.
Laptops were created and used in a cyber cafe to play Minecraft games.

Stylishly dressed zigzag people were spotted being shown off to spectators.....
...and our windows are now lovely and clean ( up to a certain height!)

We finished with a sharing circle explaining what we had been doing and how we had worked cooperatively.
