We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for our teachers, Tracy and Sam and our teacher aide, Victoria, who are a little older. This blog lets you know what we
have been up to and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people
think about our class so please get typing and leave us a comment.

Week 3 Term 2

In literacy last week we enjoyed reading to our friends and having some more parents come in to  read at the end of the day. Remember if you would like  to share a book with the class just sign up on the class notice board.

We have also continued our learning about capital and lower case letters, this is very helpful for our writing and for using the computer keyboard or alpha smarts.
Our poem this week was 'Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat'

Constable John came to see us twice this week. In the first photo we are learning to say NO to strangers.
In the second photo we were learning about good secrets and bad secrets.

In maths we have been learning about all the pairs of numbers that go together to make 10.
As the leaves had finally dried after all the wet weather we took the opportunity to go outside and have some fun. Later we used this experience to do some writing about Autumn.

On Thursday we had our 3rd 'No Child Left Inside' session. As you can see the focus was on dribbling the ball.

Can you spot some of our Room 10 friends getting their certificates in this week's Kowhai assembly.

As always Discovery Timeon Friday provided lots of learning opportunities and chance for us to practice our key competencies. Our focus this week was on letting others play.

  2. Hello Room 10. Hello Fin.

I see from your warm jackets that winter has arrived at last. It is even colder this week isn't it?

Do you know the word scrunching? That is what you were doing with the all the dry leaves in the play ground. When you kick the leaves and toss them around, they make a scrunch sound. So much fun.
