We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for our teachers, Tracy and Sam and our teacher aide, Victoria, who are a little older. This blog lets you know what we
have been up to and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people

End of Term 1

We ended our first term together with yet another busy week. We were entertained by parent readers, make sure you sign up to read sometime during Term 2
We continued practicing our handwriting and learnt our first digraph, 2 letters that make 1 sound, 'ai' as in rain and train.
Everyone worked really hard thinking about and writing their special Easter messages..............
....doing observational drawings of Easter items......
...and generally having lots of  Easter fun. A big thank you to Sam and Victoria for the Easter treats.
We have also been working on our visual memory skills.....................
................... and working in pairs on the probability games Sam taught us in maths.

The maths  check up on "Statistics" was lots of fun,  and well done everyone, you have all learnt heaps.


Finally take a look at our tasty ice-cream colour cones. They will be going up on display later in the week along with some descriptive sentences.

What are we learning in Term 2 Week 1?

Letters and Sounds: 'oa'  as in 'road' and 'toad' and 'ie' as in 'pie'
Tricky: Words  'see' and 'comet'
Writing: shared writing, recounts and descriptions
Maths:  problem solving and  probability
P.E.: Fundamental skills and running
Maori: myths and legends
Topic: Healthy Eating

    Hello Tracy, Victoria and all my Room 10 friends!
    I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are now enjoying your new term:)
    I am very lucky to still be on holiday!
    We are in LA at the moment, it is a very exciting place. Today we visited Disneyland which was pretty special. Ella's' highlight was hugging Pluto and riding her first roller coaster!
