We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for our teachers, Tracy and Sam and our teacher aide, Victoria, who are a little older. This blog lets you know what we
have been up to and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people
think about our class so please get typing and leave us a comment.

Week 10 Term 1

This week has been so busy I am not sure where to start.
On Monday we had 90 minutes of scooter training, it was a great hit with everyone and the children were so proud to share their successes with me the next day. Watch the movie compilation below to share in our learning.

On Tuesday we went to the Nelson Museum to look at the interactive plant exhibition. Thanks to all the parents who came along, you were amazing at bringing the exhibition alive for the children and as always a big thank you to Nikki from the museum who made it all happen for us.

When we got back from the museum we worked in 2 groups to write a recount of what we had done there. Take a read of them here:
On Tuesday we went to the museum. We took the petals off the model flower. We put animal pictures  into a food chain. We drew flowers. It was marvellous.

Today Room 10 went to the museum. We saw one big, brown snail, a pull-apart  flower and two beautiful eagles. We loved walking in the rain.
Also during the week we enjoyed another story from Lilly's mum and her baby brother.
Look how our handwriting is coming along, especially now we are using our special sky, grass, ground sheets to help us think about  letter size. You can download these sheets for free from this link, just stick them onto a piece of card and cover in contact and you will have one to use at

Here we are modelling our line in fashion gumboots...what a sensible choice for the wet weather, I really must get some myself.
There was some great cooperation going on when we played our maths probability game this week.

On Thursday we enjoyed a mini-ball session and on Friday, despite the wet weather lots of creative ideas were flowing indoors during Discovery Time. Look at the highlights from these 2 activities in the slide show below.

  2. Hi Room 10, it's Fin's Opa here. hi Fin.

I really liked to see you
    Scooting near and far

    And did you know,
    That instead of a car

    A scooter will always do
For a bit of fun and malarky.

    You are a Room 10
    Scooter Super Star
